WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump has shown no symptoms of the disease caused by the coronavirus for the past 24 hours and his condition is stable, his physician Sean Conley said Wednesday.
The 74-year-old president has “now been fever-free for more than four days, symptom-free for over 24 hours,” Conley said in a memorandum, adding that Trump has not received any supplemental oxygen since his initial hospitalization.
Hours after the release of information about his current health status, Trump called his infection with the coronavirus “a blessing from God” in a video posted to Twitter.
Trump said his experience undergoing treatment for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, demonstrated the efficacy of an experimental antibody cocktail he was administered and he pledged to make the not-yet-approved drug available to the general public for free as soon as possible.
Trump said Friday that he had tested positive for the virus and later that day he was admitted to a military hospital near Washington. According to his medical team, the president had suffered a high fever and twice received supplemental oxygen.
He returned to the White House on Monday evening, with the team stating he met or exceeded all hospital discharge criteria.
While the medical team has said the president’s condition needs to be closely monitored through the weekend, Trump is apparently eager to return to the campaign trail with only weeks left until the Nov. 3 presidential election.
His Democratic rival and former Vice President Joe Biden, 77, has extended his lead over Trump to more than 9 percentage points, according to major poll tracking website Real Clear Politics.
The figure is an average of national polls that include those conducted after the first presidential debate late last month, a chaotic encounter dominated by interruptions and insults, as well as polls taken since the president’s coronavirus infection
